I reported aboard the USS Waddell DDG-24 mid November 1966 as an ICFN. While aboard the Waddell I advanced in rate/rank to IC2. I was transferred to the USS King DLG-10 early June 1968. I served aboard the USS King until late November1968 when I was transferred to the San Diego Naval Hospital assigned to Station Police. I was later assigned temporary duty at the San Diego Ships Information Center while awaiting discharge. I was honorably discharged from the United States Navy on May 21, 1969.

From May of 1969 till March of 1972 I returned to work in the welding and fabrication industry while attending college at nights. On March 12, 1972, I opened Brewer Welding Co. operating the business until July of 1999. On July 12, 1999, I sold Brewer Welding and retired. I now volunteer my time and services to the USS Waddell DDG-24 Association, serving as Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors.

My wife, the former Sandra Lea Purucker, and I have been married since August 12, 1967. We have two sons, W. Steven Brewer of Philadelphia, PA, and O. Keith Brewer of Eldersburg, MD. Keith and his wife, Kelly, are expecting their first child in March 2002. Sandy is a first grade school teacher. We currently reside in Ellicott City, MD, with our two Quarter horses, Sara and Buddy and Mickey our Rottweiler.
