Vice Admiral Emmanuel CHORIANOPOULOS
H.N. was born in Athens in 1952. He entered the Naval Academy in 1971 and
graduated in 1975 receiving his commission as Ensign.
As junior officer he served on
destroyers and as XO on DDG THEMISTOCLIS, PCF KYKLON and PGA STARAKIS.
He commanded PGA STARAKIS, DDG KIMON
and NEARCHOS, he held the post of Assistant Director of HNGS/B1-III
(Personnel establishment), HNGS/A2-II (Intelligence) and CINCHELFLEET/A1
(Policy-Plans) and Director of HNGS/A1 (Policy-Plans) and HNGS/A3
(Operations-Exercises).
Also he served at the Military Delegation of the WEU in Belgium (Deputy
Military Delegate) and as Commander 1 st Squadron Hellenic Frigate Command.
As Commodore he served in Hellenic
Naval Academy as Deputy Commander (2002-2004) and he commanded the Hellenic
Frigate Command (2004-2005).
He promoted to Rear Admiral in March
2005 and was assigned to Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS) as
Head of A' Branch (Operations-Operational Planning and Training-Air Defense)
He was designed as Chief of Staff of the Hellenic National Defence General
Staff on March 2006.
He promoted to Vice Admiral in March
2007 and assigned as Commander in Chief of Hellenic Fleet.
He has attended a number of military
schools among which the Hellenic Naval War College and the Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterey California where he earned a Master's degree
in Engineering Science.
Decorations and Medals: Commander Cross
of the Order of Phoenix, Knight Gold Cross of the Order of Honor, Medal of
Merit A' class, Navy Meritorious Command medal A' class, Staff Officer
Service Commendation medal A' class and Navy Formation Command Medal C'
Class.
He speaks English fluently.
Rear Admiral Emmanuel Chorianopoulos is
married to Eleni Aivaliotou and he has a son (Nicolas, 29) and a daughter
(Eliza, 23).
